COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), is a highly contagious respiratory illness that emerged in late 2019 and rapidly spread across the globe. It presents a wide range of symptoms, from mild flu-like signs to severe respiratory complications, particularly in the elderly and individuals with underlying health conditions.
To combat the spread and impact of the virus, governments and health organizations worldwide have introduced various preventive measures including vaccination, which remains one of the most effective tools in reducing severe illness, hospitalizations, and deaths.
In Nigeria, especially in Lagos State the country’s most populous and economically active region vaccination efforts are being coordinated by the Federal Government in partnership with the Lagos State Government through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).
These efforts are aimed at ensuring safe, easy, and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for all eligible residents. Understanding the registration process and vaccine access points is essential for anyone intending to get vaccinated and protect themselves and others from COVID-19.
How to register for the COVID-19 vaccine in Lagos, follow these steps:

- Vaccination Phases: The vaccination exercise is conducted in phases. Phase One targets healthcare workers, COVID-19 response teams, security agencies, and other frontline workers. Subsequent phases prioritize older adults and individuals with underlying health conditions. Ensure you are aware of the current phase and its eligibility criteria.
- Administrative Costs: While the COVID-19 vaccine is free, some private health facilities may charge an administrative fee. For instance, booking a full vaccination (two doses) at a private facility may incur a NGN 6,000 fee, while a single dose or booster may cost NGN 4,500. Verify fees with your chosen vaccination site.
- Post-Vaccination Care: After vaccination, monitor for any side effects such as pain at the injection site, fatigue, or fever. If adverse effects occur, contact the vaccination site or use the MED SAFETY app, monitored by NAFDAC, to report and receive guidance.
